Beat Water Retention With...Water!

Wise Water International agrees that the best way to beat bloating is to give your body what it needs. Lots of water!
We are always amazed to hear people say that they do not want to drink a lot of water because it "bloats" them or it makes them "retain water." In fact, it does the exact opposite. People retain water because they're not drinking enough water! The human body functions in a "Primal Survival Mode" and it responds to anything it perceives as a possible threat to its survival. If you deprive your body of ample amounts of water, you are threatening its survival. In response, your body kicks into its "Primal Survival Mode" and holds onto every drop of water it possibly can for future needs and purposes. This water is often stored in extra-cellular spaces and appears as bloated hands, legs and feet.
If you're currently using or thinking of using diuretics to decrease water retention, think again. With diuretics, not only is the "Primal Survival Mode" activated, where your body hoards as much water as it can, but you are also draining your body of valuable vitamins and minerals. If you have long-term water retention issues, you may be ingesting too much sodium. Our bodies can only tolerate so much sodium. The more sodium you take in, the more water your body will retain to dilute the sodium concentrations. By simply cutting down on your sodium intake and drinking plenty of water, you'll notice considerably less bloating. The water will carry the excess sodium along for the ride as it flows through the kidneys.
For healthier and safer drinking, drink purified water daily. To learn more please contact Wise Water International at 1-866-427-7757.

How Water Pollution Affects Humans

Wise Water describes pollution as the undesirable effect of the addition of foreign objects to any body of water. Water pollution is a problem that exists today. Since roughly two-thirds of the Earth’s surface is covered in water, humans become easily susceptible to the ill effects of contamination.

Toxic substances and thermal pollution are the two leading causes of water pollution. Toxic substances can be man made; from the by-products of chemical compounds and industrial facilities or organic; matter from sewage or human and animal waste. Thermal pollution occurs exclusively due to human activity, the dramatic changes in water temperature from the operations of industrial facilities. Physical pollution occurs when rivers, lakes and streams are used as dump.

The most common ill effect of water pollution on humans is disease. Parasites and microorganisms may be transported by water and subsequently consumed by humans.  Common waterborne diseases include typhoid, intestinal parasites, and diarrhea.  Although these diseases are preventable by vaccination and curable by existing medicines, people continue to become sick largely due to the ongoing problem of water pollution caused by disease-carrying microorganisms.  Diseases and other ailments may also be caused by non-organic matter like harmful chemicals.  Ingestion of water laced with such chemicals could result in physical deformities, organ failure, and even death.

With water pollution being detrimental to humans, the only solution would be to address both causes and effects.  Both public and private sectors worldwide are already hard at work to prevent further causes from ever materializing as well as repairing the damage already done.  Unfortunately, even with all the measures in place, water pollution and its effects are still a long way from being permanently eliminated. We need more solutions and quick!

Keep your family safe from water pollution by installing a Wise Water International Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water System in your home. For more information please call 1-877-427-7757.

How Your Water Affects Your Hair

The characteristics of your water can determine how well (or poorly) your shampoo and conditioning routine works. Also, if your house water is chlorinated, mineralized or fluoridated, it can also have an effect on your hair.

You need water to shampoo your hair and hard water makes it harder to wash your hair. Each hair shaft is made up of little scales, like shingles on a roof. Hard water makes the scales stand up, which makes your hair feel rough and tangly. Since your hair is tangled and rough, it is more difficult to rinse out all of the soap. Soap is less effective in very hard water because its reacts with the excess minerals to form calcium or magnesium salts. These are not easily soluble in water and can result in soap film. Washing hair in soft, conditioned water will have a different result because it leaves fewer insoluble deposits on the hair.

The first step is determining the hardness of your water. The best way is to call for a free water test from Wise Water International (distributors of Eagle Water Treatment Systems. Consumers can call 1-866-427-7757 for the free water test and other helpful information.

Experiment: The top 10 things I learned drinking only water for a month

For the entire month of February I drank only water as a productivity experiment. I had no caffeine-based pre-workout drink to get ready for the gym, no mid-afternoon tea, no red wine on Valentine’s Day, and no drinks on my girlfriend’s birthday–the fanciest thing I drank all month was a cup of hot water with a lemon wedge. (I’m definitely kicking myself for not picking an easier month, but hindsight is 20/20 I guess.)
To be honest I didn’t expect to learn much from this experiment, but looking back, I learned a ton. This article is a long one, but I know you’ll get a lot out of it, and I tried to make it as skimmable as possible so you can easily skip to the parts you’re interested in.
Without further ado, here are the top 10 lessons I learned drinking only water for an entire month!

10. Every day you drink a whopping 400 calories

If you’re average, every day you drink a whopping 400 calories.
With a bit of basic arithmetic, it’s not hard to calculate how drinking more water will help you lose weight. To lose a pound of fat, you need to burn off (or have a deficit of) about 3,500 calories, though this number varies depending on how fast your metabolism is, and how much water and lean tissue you burn off as you reduce your caloric intake. That means that if you drink only water (or fluids that contain no calories), in 9 days you will lose one pound of fat. That’s equivalent to the amount of calories your body burns running at 5mph for 30 minutes every day for 9 days!
It’s not easy to lose weight, but drinking more water has got to be one of the easiest ways out there to cut back on how many calories you consume.

9. Know the eight triggers that motivate you to drink something

I think one of the keys to changing your habits is recognizing what drives your behavior. Taking a second to ask yourself why you’re about to drink something is the perfect trigger to make yourself drink healthier.
There is always a reason you drink what you do, and when you drink so much over the course of a day, being mindful of whether that reason is productive or unproductive for your health is definitely worth doing. Personally, I can think of eight reasons you drink (if you can think of any others, sound off in the comments and I’ll add them to the article!):
  1. Socially (e.g. if you’re at a party, or grabbing a coffee with someone)
  2. For energy (i.e. with caffeinated or sugary drinks)
  3. For enjoyment (e.g. a cold beer after a long day at work)
  4. For nourishment (e.g. drinking water to rehydrate)
  5. For health reasons (e.g. drinking protein shakes and fruit smoothies)
  6. Because you’re addicted (e.g. with caffeinated or sugary drinks)
  7. For pleasure (e.g. drinking a fancy bottle of red wine)
  8. For relaxation (e.g. drinking a cup of herbal tea in the evening)
When you are about to drink something that’s unhealthy for you, chances are there is a substitute that will reward you in the same way that is much better for your health.

8. Caffeine boosts your athletic performance

Caffeine has been shown to significantly improve your athletic performance, which may be why more than two-thirds of 20,000 Olympic athletes studied in one report had caffeine in their bloodstream after the World Anti-Doping Agency removed it from its list of banned substances.3
According to research, caffeine significantly improves your performance in both aerobic and weight exercises:
  • Caffeine has “been proven to increase the number of fatty acids circulating in the bloodstream, which enables people to run or pedal longer”4, which significantly improves your endurance in sports like running and cycling.
  • In one study, weightlifters performed significantly more repetitions than participants taking a placebo and “also reported feeling subjectively less tired during the entire bout and, in perhaps the most interesting finding, said that they were eager to repeat the whole workout again soon”5
Though researchers haven’t come to a conclusion on how much caffeine you should consume before working out, I typically consume 100-150mg of caffeine (in a pre-workout drink) about 15 minutes before I hit the gym. I definitely noticed that I had a lot less energy at the gym during this experiment.

7. What you drink profoundly affects your energy

What you drink has a huge impact on how much energy you have. Caffeine spikes your energy levels, making you crash a few hours later. Sugary drinks do the same thing, but by spiking your blood sugar levels instead of by inhibiting adenosine reuptake. Alcohol depresses your mood, and while it helps you become more creative, I’d vehemently argue that those effects are more than offset by how much focus you’ll lose, and how easily you’ll be distracted.
During this experiment I was pretty surprised by how stable my energy levels were after I removed sugar, caffeine, and alcohol from my diet. So much of becoming more productive is obvious in hindsight, and this lesson is definitely no exception to that rule.
What you drink profoundly affects how much energy you have. Especially when energy serves as the fuel that you burn to be productive throughout the day, it’s worth reducing your dependance on sugary, caffeinated, and alcoholic drinks to regain control over how much energy you have throughout the day.

6. Food has a huge impact on your energy levels as well

Just like with what you drink, what you eat has a huge impact on your energy levels. During this experiment, once I removed all of the caffeinated, sugary, and alcoholic drinks from my diet, I realized just how much food affected my energy levels after I could isolate its effects.
Interestingly, during the experiment I identified a few eating tactics that gave me significantly more energy to get stuff done.
  1. Eat smaller portions, more frequently. I think the most effective way to get more energy from food is to eat smaller portions, more frequently. Think of your energy reserves as a fire that burns throughout the day. It’s much easier to keep a fire going when you frequently throw in a bunch of small pieces of wood compared to when you throw in in five big logs at a time.
  2. Stay away from processed, sugary foods that will spike your blood sugar levels and then make you crash afterward.
  3. Slow the hell down. It takes your brain about 20 minutes to know when your body is full, so slow the hell down! Eating too much at once will spike your energy levels and then cause them to crash, destroying your focus and productivity later in the day.
  4. Constantly ask yourself whether you’re hungry. During the experiment, I found that constantly asking myself whether I was hungry short-circuited any urges to mindlessly overeat.
If you’re serious about wringing every last ounce of productivity out of your daily regimen, I think you should adopt these tactics, too.

5. Coffee and tea are just as hydrating as water

When I was doing research for this article, this fact surprised me the most.
Caffeine-based drinks like coffee and tea used to be considered dehydrating, but that myth has been since debunked; it turns out the “diuretic effect [that’s caused by caffeine] does not offset hydration”. Alcohol still dehydrates you, and experts recommend “at least a one-to-one ratio with water”, but you’re pretty much in the clear with caffeine-based drinks, especially if you drink them on a regular basis.

4. Take time to be grateful for everything you have

There are certain elements in your life, like electricity and the Internet, that are so interwoven into your routines and habits that you might forget they exist, until they’re gone.
Drinking only water for a month was doable, but I definitely missed all of the other drinks that I frequently took for granted before the experiment began. It wasn’t until I forced myself to remove them from my life that I regretted not being grateful for them when I consumed them every day.
Every night before I head to bed I recall three things I’m grateful for. That might seem a bit hippy-dippy on the surface, but forming a daily ritual of recalling three things you’re grateful for actually trains your brain to become happier, because you “retain a pattern of scanning the world not for the negative, but for the positive first”. Over the last few months I’ve found that the habit works wonders in making me more grateful for all of the nice things I have in my life, coffee and tea included.

3. Water is up there with sex as one of the best things ever

There are literally hundreds of benefits to drinking more water. In fact, I’ve frequently thought about putting together a huge-ass article listing all of the health benefits of water, and I still might.
Here are just a few of my favorite benefits, among hundreds, of drinking more water:
  • Water fires up your metabolism. In fact, when you drink water first thing in the morning it boosts your metabolism by a whopping 24% for 90 minutes!
  • Water helps you think. Your brain is made up of 75% water, so drinking more water gives your brain more fuel to operate on.
  • You’ll eat less, since water acts as an appetite suppressant.
  • Water helps your body flush out toxins and eliminate waste products.
  • Water helps reduce the risk of many diseases and ailments, including bladder and colon cancer.
  • Water clears up your complexion. I didn’t think it was possible for me to get even more handsome until I drank water for an entire month. Within the first couple of weeks, my complexion completely cleared up and became more vibrant than ever. Water moisturizes your skin, keeping it “fresh, soft, glowing and smooth”. It also helps you get rid of wrinkles.
  • Water saves you money! I love living frugally, and last month I spent way less money going to coffee shops, bars, and other places when I only drank water. Drinking more water can save you a large amount of money–try it and see.

2. To become more productive, drink caffeine strategically, not habitually

If you require caffeine in order to be productive on a regular basis, you’re likely doing something wrong.
The reason for this is simple: your body adapts to how much caffeine you regularly consume. That means that if you do not drink caffeine on a regular basis, and then have a coffee, you’ll feel really energized. But if you drink a cup of coffee every morning, your body becomes used to that amount, and that becomes your new normal. To reach a comparable caffeine high, you’ll have to consume two cups of coffee every morning, because your body will have adapted to drinking only one.
Interestingly, I didn’t experience any caffeine withdrawal symptoms during this experiment, I think for a simple reason: for the most part, I consume caffeine strategically, not habitually. I know I am not the norm here–when 80-90% of North Americans consume caffeine on a daily basis, I’d imagine most people consume that caffeine as a part of their daily routine. But if you want to use caffeine to become more productive, it’s worth consuming it strategically; consuming caffeine before you require more focus and energy to get important things done.
For example, I usually drink a tea or a coffee:
  • Before hitting the gym
  • Right before an important media interview, or before I give a speech
  • When I want to focus on writing (like I am right now)
Drinking caffeine strategically instead of habitually will help you reduce your dependance on the addictive substance, and it will allow you to be much more productive.

1. Caffeine boosts your focus, but compromises your creativity

It is difficult to summarize all of the research out there on caffeine and productivity in a few paragraphs, but the relationship is an interesting one.
At the end of the day, caffeine impacts your productivity in two big ways: it boosts your focus, and compromises your creativity.
  • Caffeine boosts your focus. Caffeine helps you focus on just a few things (instead of being distracted by every new thing that comes up); great for when you have to hunker down and focus on a single task.
  • Caffeine compromises your creativity. To be maximally creative, you need to give your mind time to wander. Since caffeine pushes you to direct your focus toward a few activities or tasks, it has less time to wander and think about alternative approaches to problems, and step back from your work so you can see it from an elevated perspective.
I think two of the largest contributors to your productivity are how well you can focus, and how creative you are, because they help you work more efficiently and effectively.
  • Being able to focus helps you work more efficiently. Being able to manage your focus allows you to become more efficient at what you do, because being able to manage your attention better helps you give more of yourself to your work. As a simple example, if it takes you 4 hours to write a report when you focus 50% of your attention on it, it might take you one hour to write that same report when you devote 95% of your attention to it.
  • Being creative helps you work more effectively. I think the more creative you are, the smarter you work, because you’re able to identify the best things to work on at any given time. That helps you accomplish more in less time. When you give your mind more space to wander, it tends to come up with some pretty intelligent solutions to problems.
The relationship between caffeine and productivity is definitely a muddled one, but I think the best advice I can give you is this: if you need to be creative in your work, try to reduce your dependance on caffeine so you give your mind a chance to wander. But if increasing your focus will help you become more productive than increasing your creativity, continue drinking caffeine.
And at the same time, don’t forget how wonderful water can be for you.

Water and Depression, Stress and Anxiety

Stress, depression and anxiety are three very different conditions. However, many people experience a combination of these three. Sometimes the stress can lead to the other two, for example. There are many things that can be done to heal these emotionally tolling conditions, including removing stressors from our lives, taking medications, resting, exercising, meditation, yoga and more. However, did you know that water can also help?

The three of these disorders are mood disorders, perhaps stemming from the brain. Studies link depression to dehydration because 85% of brain tissue is water. Dehydration causes energy generation in the brain to decrease. So, lack of water can be the culprit in any of these disorders really. However, like in many other medical areas, contaminated water can also cause health problems. It is a known that lead in water can cause damage to nervous systems, with depression being one of the most common results of lead-filled water. A reverse osmosis filter is one the best ways to ensure that you are drinking safe water. Now, let's move on to more ways water can help us.
There are several types of anxiety disorders, the most common being general anxiety disorder (GAD). Beverages with caffeine can increase anxiety. Replacing soda, tea and coffee with water is a good place to start. It is important to limit the consumption of caffeine, sugary drinks and alcohol. All of these liquids cause dehydration because it takes the body even more water to remove it from your body. Depending on the drink it can take your body up to 3 times the amount of water to process that drink. For example if you drink 12oz of beer it will take your body 36 ounces of water to flush out that beer. If you don’t give your body the amount of water it needs it will take it from your bones, muscles, and most importantly your brain.
Some studies show that water is a great “anxiety quencher”. When the body is dehydrated, in can actually induce anxiety and nervousness. When we are dehydrated our cells feel it at the molecular level and communicate this to the subconscious as an underline subtle anxiety or threat to survival. The key to rebalance this deficit of fluids is to drink eight glasses of fresh water a day. Water alone may not cure GAD and other related disorders, but it can sure calm those nerves! As a side note, there are many herbal supplements, such as PureCalm, that can be added to water to calm nerves as well.

Depression is another mood disorder that can cause someone to feel sad, helpless and hopeless for an extended period of time. The body’s ability to detoxify is impaired when dehydrated which will also cause a shortage in tryptophan. Studies have shown that lower levels of these amino acids can contribute to the feelings of dejection and inadequacy, as well as feelings of anxiety.
There are many different levels and types of depression, and the length of time it lasts also varies greatly on the person. Treatment for depression is usually through medication aptly called antidepressants. Sometimes these pills can cause dehydration, which means they need to be taken with plenty of water. Eating healthy and exercising, like with most medical conditions, is a great way to feel and be healthy. Exercise is a natural stimulant to many hormones, serotonin being one of them. As little as 15-20 minutes every day will naturally release these feel-good hormones that are vital to feeling happy and calm. Along with this would mean cutting out alcohol and caffeine, which can not only dehydrate, but also have adverse effects on the medication. And speaking of the drugs, one major side effect of some of the popular antidepressants is constipation. Being hydrated is crucial to comfort with this.

Some Home Remedies

Aside from drinking water there are several home remedies that you can try to help with anxiety, depression or stress. Start by eating wisely, this means eating plenty of fruits and vegetables and watching your caffeine intake. Several foods such as almonds, avocados, bananas, lima beans, vitamin B rich foods, and omega-3 fats can help trigger the production of serotonin. Quality sleep is much more important than quantity sleep. Lastly, hydrotherapy is a calming remedy for stress and anxiety. Taking a warm bath with an herbal supplement can do wonders for the body and soul. Sounds like a cliché, but the hot water will literally ease muscle tension. The soothing herbs and the quiet spell can just allow the mind to escape. If you need a lift, don’t forget about the simple power of just spending time with your family members and friends.

What do we use water for?

We use large amounts of water each day, as water serves many different purposes. We use water to drink, to do the dishes, to take a shower, to flush the toilet, to cook diner and for many other purposes.
But water is not only used for domestic purposes, humans also use water in the industries and in agriculture. In agriculture water is mainly used to water crops, but in the industries it serves many different purposes. It can serve as an ingredient of a product we produce, but it can also be a part of the whole production process. Water can be used to cool substances in the production process, for transportation and conditioning of raw materials, for boiling or cooking, for flushing, as a cleaning agent and for product transport by shipping.

How much water does a person use each day?

Americans use an average of 168 litres a person each day. For Dutch people this is about 135 litres. This water is used for different purposes.

In this pie chart you can see, which purposes domestic water serves:

If we take into account the water that is used by industries, businesses and institutions an American uses an average of 650 gallons each day.

How long can water be stored?

If stored properly, water in 3-litre and 5-litre containers can be stored for approximately two years. Smaller containers of 1 litre up to 2.5 litres of water are made with a thinner grade of plastic and can be stored for approximately six months. They cannot be stored as long, because they are very susceptive to penetrating odours.

How should water be stored?

One should pay special attention to how water is stored. Water should be stored in a cool, dark and dry place and it should be stored away from cleaning supplies and other chemicals. Water can pick up odours from other substances that we cannot detect in the air, so one should always pay attention to the properties of other substances that are stored with the water.

Why does tap water often smell like chlorine?

Drinking water has to be protected from microrganisms and contaminants that can enter the water through the pipelines that transport it to households. This happens by means of disinfection with various disinfection agents, chlorine being the most widely used one. Chlorine is a very effective disinfectant, which is used to kill any harmful bacteria that might be present in the water source. The amount of chlorine that is used is based on the amount of water that is treated, the amount of contaminants that must be controlled and the time it takes for the water to reach the first house. Chlorine levels are usually low, but in some rural areas there are more dangers to drinking water and the levels of chlorine that are used are a bit higher. People can than smell it when they tap water.
When one's tap water smells like chlorine it does not mean a danger to the people that drink it. Chlorine levels used in drinking water are not high enough to form a serious threat to anyone's health.
If the water has a chlorine smell, it may actually indicate that not enough chlorine is being added to the system. By increasing the amount of chlorine used at the treatment plant, different forms of chlorine are created in the water, which diminish chlorine odours.

Water and Your Attitude

Constantly crabby? Then make more stops to the water cooler. Habitual high-volume H2O consumption led to a better mood and a significant decrease in fatigue and sleepiness, finds new research from France.

In the study, 30 people who drank little water each day—less than 1.2 liters—were asked to increase their water intake to more than 2.5 liters for three days. Not only were people getting their thirst quenched, but also participants reported feeling less fatigued, less confused, and more satisfied overall with their mood at the end of the study.

Researchers also flipped the script and had 22 people who regularly drank lots of water decrease their consumption. The reverse happened: Lowering how much water they drank worsened participants’ moods, leading to negative effects such as headaches, confusion, and fatigue, says study author Nathalie Pross, Ph.D.

So you know dehydration is bad for your body during exercise, but how does it rankle your mood 24/7? While it’s still unclear, previous research from the University of Connecticut found that even mild dehydration affects the cognitive performance of men. Researchers believe one reason might be that neurons in your noggin detect an electrolyte imbalance or dehydration, and that affects parts of the brain regulating your mood.

The bottom line: Aim to drink 2.5 liters of water—about 8 to 10 glasses—each day and you might just stop snapping at others around the office. .

Allergy Symptoms: Another Good Reason to Drink Water.

We all know how essential water is.  It’s vital to almost every body function – from suppressing appetite to regulating temperature to aiding digestion.  A body well-hydrated with water just works more efficiently. Of course that means that not being well hydrated, more commonly known as being dehydrated, means “your body doesn’t have enough water and other fluids to carry outs its normal functions.” What we may not know is that drinking water may help fight allergy symptoms.

Dehydration can result in some very serious health problems. One can live much longer without food than water.  Other less well known effects of chronic dehydration may include hypertension, asthma, allergies and migraine headaches.  So what exactly is the connection between allergies and water? The answer is histamines.
Allergies are caused by a histamine reaction in the body. If you suffer from hay fever for instance, your body views pollen as a dangerous invader and over reacts and causes your immune system to produce histamines to fight the irritants. This results in the watery eyes, runny noses and sneezing associated with seasonal allergies. In other words, the annoying symptoms of allergies are actually our bodies fighting off the “invasion” of pollen, or mold or dust.
Histamines also have other functions, including regulating the body’s water supply.  A 1995 Dutch study confirmed that dehydration triggers histamine production as a defensive mechanism to preserve water remaining in the body as well as to prevent future loss. When we are dehydrated, histamine production increases and can cause us to have the symptoms of seasonal allergies such as runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes.
Revving up histamine production for lack of water is easily avoided by drinking more.  Thirst is one of the last signs of dehydration and since dehydration can cause the brain to become a little confused, we often mistake the “thirsty” signal for a “hungry” signal.  So we reach for food instead of water – not what the body really needs.  Try a glass of water first.  It may also thin nasal mucus which can provide allergy relief.  Hot steaming drinks also help – but stick with healthy teas and broths.
Not only are allergies annoying but they can really put a crimp in your lifestyle.  Pharmaceuticals loaded with anti-histamines can do a number on you as well; side effects can range from dry mouth to nausea and vomiting.
A 2010 Yale University study even found that people taking antihistamines on a regular basis were heavier than those who did not (they did not conclude that they actually caused weight gain, the study was observational only).  Given all the possible side effects of pharmaceutical aids it seems that anything one can do to naturally prevent allergy attacks is prudent.  So:
  • Drink plenty of water which may help prevent higher histamine production.
  • Eat plenty of foods containing natural anti-histamines – they’re good for your general health as well.
  • Keep all-natural allergy relief handy – like Allergease.
Wise Water International (distributors of Eagle Water Treatment Systems) have helped many families with allergies by providing clean water. For more information please contact us at 1-866-427-7757 or visit www.wisewaterint.com.

Drinking a good amount of water every day can lower your risk of a heart attack.

Drinking a good amount of water could lower your risk of a heart attack. A six year study published in the American Journal of Epidemiology found that people who drank more than 5 glasses of water a day were 41 percent less likely to die from a heart attack during the study period than those who drank less than 2 glasses a day.

The American Journal of Epidemiology study broke it down even further to find out that guys who drank five or more glasses of water had only a 46% chance of having a fatal heart attack, and women had only 59% risk, compared to people who drank two or less glasses of water daily. It gets even better (or worse, depending on how you look at it). Women who drank two or less glasses of something other than water – such as tea, a soft drink, or juice – had a 147% greater risk for a fatal heart attack than women who drank five or more glasses of water. (Guys, you had a 46% greater risk if you skipped the water for another drink.)

Now, if those stats confuse you, I’ll sum it up: drink more water and reduce your risk for a heart attack. Even after researchers adjusted for other risk factors, these numbers still held intact. Researchers here looked at coronary heart disease and fluid intake stats in 8,280 male and 12,017 female participants. Overall, these participants had 246 “coronary heart disease events” (128 in men and 118 in women) over the six-year follow-up period. More than any other factor in this study, water intake determined fatal heart disease risk.

According to lead researcher Dr. Jacqueline Chan, this was the “first study to record the association between high water intake and reduced risk of coronary heart disease. By drinking more plain water, healthy people… reduced their risk of dying from a heart attack by half or more.” Chan notes there isn’t much evidence about the eight-glasses rule. She still wants people not to rely on tea, coffee, and other diuretics that can raise blood viscosity, and focus instead on plain water.

Consider the statistics and you’ll understand her position.

Your body is about 83% water, your brain and muscles are about three-quarters water, and even your bones pack 22% water. Water contributes to every single metabolic process in your body, including absorbing nutrients and removing toxic waste. Dehydration, on the other hand, can elevate at least four independent risk factors for heart disease: whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, hematocrit, and fibrinogen. Heart attacks occur more frequently in the morning, when your blood is thicker because of water loss while you’re sleeping. I don’t know about you, but that’s enough reason for me to crank up my water quota.
If you’re shaking your head that doing so is impossible, here is an easy tip to meet your water quota. Purchase an Eagle Water Filtration System from Wise Water International and you won’t even have to worry about those pesky chemicals leaching from plastic water bottles. Water and Sanitation

Plan works with communities to improve access to safe drinking water and to raise awareness of the importance of waste management.

More than 2.2 million children die every year – that’s four every minute – as a result of diarrhea caused by poor sanitation and hygiene.
Every year Plan helps communities build 2,000 school latrines and in the last three years has helped families and communities build an average 100,000 toilets per year, benefiting several million people.

We also provide water points in communities and schools, especially in rural areas, and establish community-based organizations to ensure the continued management and maintenance of water points.

Billions of people lack access to basic sanitation and are forced to defecate out in the open, contaminating food and water supplies.

In Asia and East and Southern Africa, Plan is pioneering a radical new approach – Community-Led Total Sanitation – which educates communities about the importance of sanitation and helps them to construct and maintain their own latrines. They also gain the confidence to enforce a total ban on open defecation.

You win some, you lose some. Don't forget to replenish your body with water.

So how much water should you drink before, during, and after a workout? First, make sure you’re well hydrated to begin with. Drink fluids throughout the day before you exercise. Then follow this formula from Melton:
  • One to two hours before your workout, drink 15 to 20 ounces of water
  • 15 minutes before you begin, drink between 8 and 10 ounces of water
  • During your workout, drink another 8 ounces every 15 minutes.
You may need to drink more if you’re sweating heavily, especially if you’re exercising outdoors in very hot weather.
Carlson also recommends that you weigh yourself before and after any type of exercise. “For every pound lost, replace it with 16 to 20 ounces of fluid,” she suggests. If you lose weight during the workout, drink a bit more next time.
Many people like to use sports drinks during a workout, but that’s generally not necessary unless you’re working out for an extended period of time. “Most people who are working out for less than an hour at a time can get everything they need with just water,” Melton says.

Can You Drink Too Much Water?

It’s possible to drink too much water, but difficult to do. There is a condition called hyponatremia, usually found in endurance athletes. With hyponatremia, the blood becomes excessively diluted from too much water and sodium levels drop to dangerously low levels. This can lead to nausea, headaches, confusion, fatigue, and in extreme cases, coma and death.
But you’d have to drink gallons of water to suffer hyponatremia – enough to gain weight over the course of a workout, which is rare.
Just make sure you have a full water bottle handy and drink whenever you feel thirsty. If you weren’t getting enough water during workouts before, you’ll be amazed at how much better you feel.
You can improve your performance simply by drinking enough water!

London, Ontario’s City Council has passed a resolution that effectively bans the sale of bottled water within municipal buildings and facilities where municipal water is readily available.
In passing its resolution, London City Council said the importance of promoting city tap water as safe and a bargain compared to bottled water.

London joins a host of other Ontario municipalities that have either limited the use, or are considering limiting the use of bottled water on municipal premises or in schools, including Cambridge, Kitchener, Ottawa, Sault Ste Marie, St. Catharines, Sudbury, Toronto, the Town of the Blue Mountains, and Waterloo.

Concern over the sale and use of bottled water is growing internationally given its cost, the poor recycling rate for single use plastic bottles, and the greenhouse gas emissions associated with manufacturing the bottles and transporting those bottles long distances.

“The City of London’s actions remind us once again that only municipal tap water delivers,” said Nick Benkovich, president of the Ontario Municipal Water Association. “At about one thousand times the cost of municipal water, bottled water is simply not good value for money. Municipal drinking water has to meet a much higher safety standard than bottled water and is delivered at a fraction of the cost.”

Wise Water International (distributors of Eagle Water Treatment Systems) agree with the ban of bottled water. To find out more information on the safety of drinking water please contact us at 1-866-427-7757.

Considered among the great technological breakthroughs of this century, the Eagle Reverse Osmosis process purifies water at the molecular level. Purification by Eagle Reverse Osmosis, represents a big step above filters of any type. You can feel confident that the full spectrums of impurities are removed including those excess dissolved salts. That’s why so many bottled water companies use it.

How does the Reverse Osmosis Water Treatment System work?

By squeezing ordinary tap water (using your house water pressure) against a special membrane, pure water molecules are separated from impurities. What’s even more impressive is that these rejected impurities are automatically rinsed down the drain leaving bottled quality water for you that’s pure and delicious.
We have combined this fantastic Eagle Reverse Osmosis process with other quality components to create a compact drinking water appliance that fits neatly under your kitchen sink. It provides you with an abundant supply of true bottled quality water without the bottles from its own attractive spigot. We can even hook up your icemaker and refrigerator water dispenser to the filtration system!

Nestlé is about to suck BC dry - for $2.25 per million litres to be exact

British Columbia will finally start charging companies like Nestlé for taking its groundwater and bottling it to sell at a profit. The problem is it will only be charging $2.25 per million litres.
Under this new pricing structure Nestlé and corporations like it will be able to buy up Canada's water for next to nothing. When over one hundred thousand people objected to Nestlé taking 285 million litres of Canada's water for free and selling it around the world, this wasn't the fix they had in mind.

At a time when water is in short supply globally, it is outrageous that Nestlé can draw limitless amounts of Canada's natural resources to sell for a huge profit. Nestlé's chairman says that "extremist" NGOs are responsible for the idea that water is a human right, and that water should have a market price -- apparently he thinks that the “market price" for him is $2.25.

This is a crime we cannot allow to go forward. Large corporations abusing our precious water resources. Please put a stop to this and rally support for legislation banning  bottled water. The city of San Francisco in the U.S.A. has already implemented a ban on the sale of bottled water on city property. Click on the link below to read more on this development. http://www.eagleindustriescorp.com/the-city-of-san-francisco-bans-the-sale-of-bottled-water-on-city-property/

As concerned corporate citizens we here at Wise Water International and Eagle Water Treatment Systems offer a simple solution to protecting our valuable water resource. We want to encourage our community to begin to eliminate their dependence on bottled water and begin to rely on tap water as a source of clean fresh water. We suggest improving the taste, smell and clarity of the tap water by installing a water filtration system in your home or business.

This water filtration system will provide better than bottled water quality from tap water and help to protect our valuable water resource here is Canada. To learn more visit our website at www.wisewaterint.com or call us at 1-844-306-8151.

Wise Water International and Eagle Water Treatment brings to light the importance of our water resource here in Hamilton, Ontario Canada.

Running taps, working toilets, and clean safe drinking water, they’re things people can take for granted here in the Hamilton area. Yet around the world, millions of poor people get sick or die each day because they must go without these necessities of life.According to the World Health Organization almost 900 million people in the world do not have access to clean, safe drinking water, while 2.6 billion live without basic sanitation. Across the globe, more than 6,000 people die each day from diseases caused by dirty water — two-thirds of those are children. What could be more crucial to life than clean purified water? The best way to protect our water here in Hamilton is to manage it by protecting both water and the land it flows through. By doing so, we can create healthy streams and healthy communities.

Here in the greater Hamilton area we depend on the Hamilton Conservation Authority to do their part by protecting our valuable natural resource which is water. According to a publication by the Hamilton Conservation Authority titled “Leading Conservation Forward” our water currently may be placed under severe stress. “As urban populations and industrialization have proliferated, the water cycle and its various components have been put under severe stress. This has created flood conditions where none existed before, and the discharge of pollutants has become a health threat to those who live downstream. These and related environmental problems can be overcome, but only if we consider the water resource in the context of all human activities within the drainage basins (watersheds) of our rivers and streams.”

As concerned citizens of our community it is important that we all do our part and it is time to call for a cleanup of our watershed areas including rivers and streams by picking up and cleaning up the numerous plastic bottles found in these areas. Litter found in our rivers and streams specifically from plastic water bottles has become a leading source of pollution in our environment. According to the World Health Organization over 50 billion plastic bottles are purchased each year, which is over 1500 per second. Those water bottles take a minimum of 450 years to begin to decompose in our environment. Even in its smallest form, plastic will never fully biodegrade. Over 17 million barrels of oil are used in producing bottled water each year, yet bottled water costs more than tap water. The energy wasted in producing and using plastic bottles in a year would be enough to power 36,000,000 homes.

As concerned corporate citizens we here at Wise Water International and Eagle Water Treatment Systems offer a simple solution to protecting our valuable water resource. We want to encourage our community to begin to eliminate their dependence on bottled water and begin to rely on tap water as a source of clean fresh water. We suggest improving the taste, smell and clarity of the tap water by installing a water filtration system in your home and business. This water filtration system will provide better than bottled water quality from tap water and help to protect our valuable water resource here in the Greater Hamilton area.
